Darío Martínez Jove


BIO:

Darío Martínez Jove is an associate in Scott+Scott’s London office specialising in competition damages litigation.  Mr. Martínez’s current work includes acting in collective proceedings in different stages of the litigation process, and in a wide range of industries.

Before joining Scott+Scott, Darío worked as a Contract Lawyer for different cases for a Magic Circle firm in the Disputes and Investigations department, involving document reviewing in matters of cross-border litigation and competition law.

Prior to moving to the UK, Darío worked for a leading law firm in Spain, first in consumer actions regarding abusive clauses on mortgage agreements and banking products and later in follow-on actions against the major truck manufactures on the Trucks Case.  He also worked for different Spanish public sector bodies in insurance and European Union matters.

Darío is qualified in Spain and in transition to be also qualified to England and Wales after passing his SQE exams, and holds a qualifying degree in Spanish law and a Master’s Degree in European Union studies.  Currently he is studying for a Post Graduate Diploma in Competition Law at King’s College London.  He is fluent in English, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, with professional working proficiency in French.

REPRESENTATIVE CASES:

  • Acting for a large number of retailers (including Vodafone, Hermès, GrandVision, Michelin, Soho House, Grange Hotels) in their claims in the English High Court against Visa and Mastercard in relation to anti-competitive interchange fees.

REPRESENTATIVE CASES AT PRIOR FIRMS:

  • Part of a team that worked with the members of the Spanish Confederation of Freight Transport (CETM) against the major truck manufacturers on the Trucks Case.
  • Part of a team that represented many individual claimants against Spain’s major banks regarding abusive clauses in mortgage agreements and other banking products.
