Job Summary
The Associate Litigation Attorney will work on shareholder derivative matters.
This is a full time, salaried role based at the Scott+Scott New York office* with the potential to win increasing responsibilities within the practice group and attain professional growth by demonstrating knowledge, aptitude, and skill.
*Note: While this team is based in New York, the role could have the flexibility to be performed remotely OR be based at any Scott+Scott office including Colchester, CT, Wilmington, DE, Richmond, VA, Austin, TX or San Diego, CA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Initiate shareholder demands and actions.
- Draft legal briefs, including dispositive motions.
- Actively engage in case management.
- Conduct legal research.
- Regularly communicate and coordinate with co-counsel.
- Travel to meetings and hearings when necessary.
Required Competencies
- Oral Communication – Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and asks for clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings.
- Legal Writing – Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet the facts of the case; presents numerical data effectively; ability to read and interpret written information.
- Legal Research – Posses foundational knowledge of the legal system and legal information sources, including analytical tools.
- Temperament – Demonstrates the ability to work with little supervision; prioritizes and anticipates work needs; works well under periods of pressure and short deadlines.
- Ethics – Always keeps client and firm information strictly confidential; understands and implements general rules of ethical behavior applicable to lawyers.
Required Education and Certifications
- Admission in good standing to any Bar in the United States.
- Legal degree from an accredited institution.
