Scott+Scott is actively hiring an Enterprise Application Architect to join our team.
The Enterprise Applications Architect is the Administrator who serves as the technical owner for Scott+Scott’s portfolio of business applications, partnering with designated business owners in Finance, HR, Records, and Operations to ensure the firm’s SaaS platforms run reliably, securely, and cost-effectively.
Operating in close partnership with the Chief Information Officer, this role is the firm’s first line of defense for application configuration, vendor management, and integration work across a portfolio that spans practice management, HR/payroll, expense, document management, and learning management systems.
This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role for a senior technical operator who is energized by owning systems end-to-end — from contract renewal through user provisioning, integration design, incident triage, and vendor escalation.
Operating Model
The firm operates a clear separation between technical owners (this role) and business owners (functional leaders within Finance, HR, Records, and other operational groups). Business owners define how their platforms should serve their function — workflows, policies, reporting requirements. The Enterprise Applications Architect owns how the platforms are configured, integrated, supported, and renewed to deliver against those needs.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Administration
- Day-to-day administration, performance monitoring, and stability of the application portfolio.
- Maintain a comprehensive systems inventory: contracts, licensing, costs, renewal dates, user counts, integration topology, and security posture.
- Surface redundancy, consolidation opportunities, and cost savings across the portfolio.
Vendor Management
- Serve as the firm’s primary point of contact for application vendors.
- Manage support escalations and hold vendors accountable to service-level commitments.
- Partner with the CIO and Finance on contract negotiations, renewals, and benchmarking.
- Track vendor health: SLA performance, security posture, financial stability, and roadmap alignment with firm needs.
Application Support (Tier-2 / Escalation)
- Serve as the escalation point for application-specific issues raised by business owners and platform power users.
- Resolve configuration, access, and integration issues directly; escalate true defects and outages to vendors with appropriate urgency.
- Partner with IT on issues that cross the application/infrastructure boundary.
- Note: Front-line end-user support remains with the firm’s IT support function; this role engages on application-specific escalations.
Integration & Identity
- Configure and maintain SSO, SCIM provisioning, and API integrations between platforms.
- Partner with IT on identity and access management (Azure AD/Entra ID).
- Maintain GL mappings, file feeds, and data flows between systems and Aderant.
- Steward the firm’s integration architecture to minimize point-to-point complexity over time.
Data Governance
- Establish and enforce master data standards across the portfolio (employee records, vendor records, client/matter records, GL coding, security groups).
- Implement audit controls, periodic access reviews, and provisioning/deprovisioning procedures.
- Partner with Legal/Compliance on data retention, privacy controls, and applicable regulatory regimes (GDPR for EU offices, US state privacy regimes).
Project Delivery
- Lead platform upgrades, module rollouts, and integrations as project owner.
- Manage scope, timeline, and budget for application-related projects.
- Run vendor selection processes (RFP, demos, scoring, reference checks) for new platforms.
Training & Adoption
- Partner with the firm’s Training & IT Support function to design and deliver end-user training.
- Develop SOPs and self-service documentation to reduce support overhead.
- Track adoption metrics and identify platforms that are underutilized relative to spend.
Reporting
- Provide regular status updates to the CIO on portfolio health, open issues, vendor performance, upcoming renewals, and budget variance.
- Surface decisions that need leadership attention: contract renewals at risk, vendor consolidation opportunities, platforms that no longer fit the firm’s needs.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years as a hands-on administrator of business applications, with substantive experience in at least two of the following platform categories:
— Legal practice management or financial systems (Aderant, Elite, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle)
— HR/payroll (Paycom, ADP, Workday, UKG)
— Expense management (Chrome River, Concur, Expensify)
— Document management (iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint)
— Learning management systems
- Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships, including contract renewals, SLA enforcement, and escalation management.
- Hands-on integration experience: SSO (SAML/OIDC), SCIM provisioning, REST APIs, scheduled file feeds.
- Strong understanding of master data management, data governance, and audit/access controls.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; demonstrated ability to translate between business owners and vendor technical teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Candidate must reside in one of the following states where Scott+Scott Attorneys At Law LLP maintain an established business presence: AZ, CA, CT, DE, MD, NE, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TX, VA and WA.
Preferred Qualifications
- Law firm or legal department experience.
- Hands-on Aderant administration experience.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 / Entra ID / Power Platform from an integration consumer’s perspective.
- Experience with GL mapping, subledger reconciliation, or financial system integrations.
- GDPR and international data privacy familiarity (EU office support).
- Procurement, RFP, and vendor evaluation experience.
- Experience operating within a formal technical-owner / business-owner application governance model.
- Experience supporting client-required attestations (SOC 2, ISO 27001) where firm platforms are in scope.
Working Relationships
- Reports to: Chief Information Officer
- Closest peers: Director of IT, U.S. Litigation Support Manager, Innovation Group team members
- Primary business-owner partners: Finance leadership (Aderant, expense), HR leadership (Paycom), Records Manager (DMS), Training lead (LMS), Legal/Compliance (governance, privacy)
- External: Application vendor account teams, implementation partners, contract counsel as needed
What Success Looks Like in the First Year
- A complete, accurate, and maintained inventory of the firm’s business application portfolio with renewal calendar, ownership map, and integration topology.
- A documented technical-owner / business-owner RACI in active use across all in-scope platforms.
- Demonstrable improvement in vendor-managed escalation resolution time.
- At least one major platform implementation or upgrade delivered on scope and on budget.
- Identified and executed cost savings or consolidation opportunities equivalent to a meaningful portion of the role’s fully loaded cost.
Compensation
The annual salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $115,000 – $165,000.
Salary determination will depend on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
