Research Assistant


Scott+Scott Attorneys at Law LLP seeks an experienced Research Analyst to join the firm’s in-house investigation department. The Research Analyst will report to the Firm’s senior investigator and the managing partner of the investigations department and will assist in gathering factual information through open-source research in support of the firm’s case work.

This position, while primarily research-based, has the potential to grow into a full investigator role including witness interviewing. While experience is a plus, it is not required as training will be provided.

Core Responsibilities

The Research Analyst generates witness leads by researching numerous online sources (e.g., LinkedIn) and public records databases to identify: 1) relevant individuals and 2) accurate contact details for such individuals.

They will also assist in conducting various types of other research tasks, such as background checks for natural persons, research relating to specific companies or industries, and other case-specific research.

Research will include review of court documents, news articles, Securities and Exchange Commission filings including corporate financial statements, professional licenses, and social media profiles.

At times they will assist in drafting memos or in preparing other types of written documents, setting forth research findings in a clear, organized manner.

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • 3 years minimum experience in fact-gathering through open-source research
  • Experience with legal and/or investigative databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis, TLO, Pacer, Accurint, Skopenow, Bloomberg Law, Factiva, etc.)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated passion, motivation and ability to conduct research efficiently and effectively in a dynamic professional environment
  • Possession of intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn and grow with the department and the Firm
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced team environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines
  • Flexibility to adjust priorities, research approach, and objectives as needed
  • The highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion
  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Experience

  • Experience conducting interviews with witnesses
  • Experience in research and investigation at a law or professional services firm;
  • Familiarity with plaintiff litigation

Compensation

The annual salary range for this salaried, exempt position is $75,000 – $87,000.

Salary determination will depend on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
