Fertilizer Price-Fixing Investigation

Big Fertilizer Has Rigged the Game Against American Farmers

American farmers feed the world, and are the backbone of their local communities. You work hard, take risks, and play by the rules. In return, the largest fertilizer companies in America appear to have treated you as their personal piggy bank — rigging the market against the very farmers who depend on them.

The numbers tell the story. Between 2021 and 2024, fertilizer prices exploded — tripling or quadrupling in some products — even as manufacturers’ own costs held steady or fell. Net farm income dropped nearly 30%. Meanwhile, Nutrien, Mosaic, CF Industries, Koch, and Yara posted combined record profits exceeding $18 billion in 2022 alone. Companies that fiercely compete with each other do not record profits that large because they are aggressively cutting prices to win your business.

The federal government has taken notice. In January 2026, USDA Deputy Secretary Stephen Vaden publicly stated that Nutrien and Mosaic had been “colluding” to constrain fertilizer supply and drive up farmer costs. Two months later, the Department of Justice opened a formal investigation into all five companies for allegedly coordinating to fix prices charged to U.S. farmers.

Scott+Scott is pursuing recovery for farmers and agricultural purchasers who bought fertilizer directly from these companies at artificially inflated prices.
