CHANGE HEALTHCARE, INC. DATA BREACH

Change Healthcare, Inc. (“Change Healthcare”), is a healthcare technology company that provides pharmacies, hospitals, and other health care providers in the United States with tools that allow them to electronically process claims and payments. Change Healthcare is one of the largest healthcare technology companies in the country, processing about 50% of medical claims in the U.S. for around 900,000 physicians, 33,000 pharmacies, 5,500 hospitals and 600 laboratories (source: Reuters).

Beginning on February 21, 2024, a ransom group known as “ALPHV/Blackcat” carried out a cyberattack that led to significant disruptions to Change Healthcare’s operations. These disruptions resulted in the inability of pharmacies, hospitals, and healthcare providers from processing payments from patients. As a result of the cyber security incident many payment processing payments or insurance claims were delayed or disrupted.

In addition, because of Change Healthcare’s inability to protect sensitive personally identifiable information (“PII”) and protected health information (“PHI”), it is believed that ALPHV/Blackcat compromised approximately 6 TB of patient data containing sensitive PHI and PII.

While the full impact of the data breach is yet to be determined, Scott+Scott is dedicated to helping consumers whose pay for healthcare related services was denied or delayed.
